Starting is the Hardest Part
Getting started is HANDS DOWN, the hardest part.
It’s intimidating to starts something new. Especially if you assume that everyone else already knows what they are doing. But the truth is, everyone was a beginner once. It’s brave to roll out your yoga mat for the first time.
They say it takes 21 days to make something a habit (or to break one). So, once you get over the hump of signing up, then showing up that first time, you need to keep showing up. And when it’s not yet a part of your routine, that is HARD. No matter how great you feel after class.
Anything new can feel strange and maybe even a little uncomfortable, because our brains are wired to keep us safe. And even if it’s not healthy, familiar feels safe to our brains and unfamiliar feels unsafe. So there’s a little bit of discomfort in those first days. At Jax, we recognize how brave it is to even show up and we are here to help ease the discomfort as much as possible. We don’t take ourselves too seriously and we certainly laugh a lot… which seems to help our community feel at home.
Each quarter, we welcome brand new students by offering a Yoga Basics course. (Of course you can start anytime - it doesn’t have to be in a beginner class). Our Yoga Basics course is a 3 week beginner series that includes foundational yoga concepts and postures designed to help you feel comfortable starting a practice anywhere - it doensn’t have to be at Jax. It could be a home practice or classes at another studio. A digital copy of the book we use is for sale in our shop here if you are interested in working through our basics course on your own.
This year, we are offering the course online over 28 days for our annual February challenge. This ONLINE version of our Basics course includes daily correspondence and support. You will get an email each day with one pose and one yoga concept. The daily content will also be posted in a private Facebook group. Once a week, we will do an online class in the Facebook group incorporating all the poses of the week, and each week, we will send you an inspirational Lock Screen for your phone.
Who is the 28 Days of Yoga Basics Challenge for? IT’S FOR EVERYONE.
